From the RWA: ‘This exhibition provides an opportunity to view the work of over 20 RWA Academicians who use print as part of their art practice’. Artists include Peter Randall-Page RA RWA.
The original images for Tarantella II were created by controlling the flow of drops of ink on sheets of paper. The resulting images were used to make a screen and silkscreen prints produced.
In Peter’s words: ‘Many of my prints and drawings are standalone art works, with little obvious connection to my sculpture, however they are intimately linked to the three-dimensional work in approach. With the Tarantella prints I am exploring control and chance. The ink is poured onto the paper and manipulated without the use of a brush, but simply by tilting the paper itself. This is a process where control is deliberately made difficult. In common with much of the sculpture, I am concerned with a balance between order and chaos, as well as a balance between positive and negative. The dance called ’tarantella’, which has its origins in Italy, was thought to be the only cure for the bite of a tarantula or wolf spider.’
