Arts & Science Sculpture Commission Open Call University of Birmingham

Deadline 24 February 2019

Call for Submissions: Arts & Science Sculpture Competition

University of Birmingham are currently inviting artists to submit proposals for a new public sculpture bringing together arts and science in the University’s recently expanded campus parkland, the Green Heart.

Art is a vital part of campus life and this exciting new commission will continue the University of Birmingham’s long history of working with leading artists, artisans and architects.

Following an open call for submissions, four finalists will be invited to produce maquettes to be exhibited in an outdoor exhibition; an indoor exhibition will expand on each of the proposals. Submissions will be shortlisted by public vote and a winner decided by a panel of judges.

The Arts & Science Sculpture commission should respond to the themes of arts and science in the same spirit as the festival, overlooking the traditional division between arts and science, and instead finding ways each discipline can inform the other, spark debate and new understandings about the rich world in which we live.
