The works on display explore Randall-Page’s interest in order and chaos in natural phenomena and the way that diverse processes often produce similar structures and patterns. Using gravity Randall-Page allows the ink to flow over the paper like tributaries or river deltas. He then inverts the paper, effectively reversing gravity so the ink appears to flow upwards like the branching patterns of trees. Although he guides the flow of ink, there is a strong element of chance inherent in this way of working. These expansive drawings are then folded to create mirror image symmetry reminiscent of Rorschach ink-blots. The underlying structures that govern these works are derived from simple mathematical rules of subdivision and exponential growth patterns. Blood Tree I, Espalier and Rorschach Leaf series will be on show as well as a selection of smaller works.
