Enamel on steel
Espalier is the realisation of Peter Randall-Page’s design for a public artwork in Queens Road, Bristol, UK.
A new lift shaft has been constructed as part of the Light and Inspiration project at the Royal West of England Academy, Bristol, UK. The shaft, designed by Child Sulzmann Architects, is external to the existing Grade II* listed building in Queens Road, Bristol.
The outside of the shaft is clad in steel panels coated in vitreous enamel. Their design was created by Peter Randall-Page based on his drawings inspired by natural forms such as river deltas, and by espaliered trees and Rorschach patterns. The enamelled steel panels were fabricated by the engineering company AJ Wells & Sons.
